Healthy Immunity: From Birth to Old Age
What does it mean to have a healthy immune system? How do we keep ourselves, our patients, and our loved ones free from infectious diseases and chronic illness? The promise of functional/integrative medicine is to enjoy lifelong good health from infancy to old age, which means reversing the epidemic of auto-immune diseases, addressing the addiction crisis head on, improving health outcomes at every stage of life, and individualizing care.
How do we make this promise a reality? On Saturday, October 27, 2018, join Southern Oregon Birth Connections and a world-class group of leading scientists and clinicians for the conference, Healthy Immunity: From Birth to Old Age, taking place at Southern Oregon University in Ashland to learn more about the new understanding of lifelong immunity that is being uncovered RIGHT NOW and to discover WHAT’S NEXT.
A plethora of surprising research has emerged over the last five years about the importance of the biome and microbiome, the origins of chronic disease, and the role toxic exposures play in epigenetics. We know more than ever before about the significance of lifestyle, diet, and environment on human health—and how each can contribute to brain and learning issues (like autism, ADHD, and anxiety disorders), immune dysfunction (like allergies, asthma, and auto-immune disease), and even addiction in young people and older adults alike.
Together, we will be learning from cutting-edge researchers and practitioners about how early and ongoing chemical exposures, the balance of the microscopic symbionts that live on us and in us, and lifestyle practices influence the functional health of an individual at every stage of life. Further, we will explore how this information can be translated into precise and personalized lifestyle health programs.
This day-long conference will be held in scenic Ashland, Oregon (15 miles from the California border) in the Rogue River Room at Southern Oregon University. The conference will provide opportunities for conversation with healing experts, and two film screenings. Friday even there will be a screening of the new documentary film, Why Not Home: the surprising birth choices of doctors and nurses. On Saturday evening, we will screen Symbiotic Earth: How Lynn Margulis rocked the boat and started a scientific revolution, about the late microbiologist whose work profoundly changed our understanding of the mechanisms of evolution and foreshadowed the current interest in the human biome.
